BP approval to drill well on Faroese shelf

BP received approval to drill the sixth exploration well on the Faroese shelf

On Friday, 12th October 2007 Jarðfeingi granted BP, as operator of License 007, approval to drill an exploration well in their license area.

The semi-submersible rig Transocean Rather will drill the well for the BP group, which is expected to be spudded later this week.

The BP group holds license 007 which covers an area to the south east of the Faroe Islands. The well will be drilled in the William prospect at 60° 36’ 58.701’’N and 05° 28’43.540’’ W (datum: ETRS89). The water depth in the area is 743 metres.

The drilling operation is expected to take approximately 3 months.

BP Amoco Exploration (Faroes) Ltd is the operator of the group, which also consists of Shell and Anadarko.
